US printings say Sorcerer’s Stone. Same first novel. Do not start with Fantastic Beasts. Do not start with Cursed Child. There is no honest debate about the seven.
The seven are the series
Publication order is the story order. Illustrated editions and adult covers are the same novels. Sorcerer’s Stone is not a different book one.
The films follow this spine more closely than most adaptations do. Film order is still not a reason to skip a book.
What shops file next to book one
Hogwarts “textbooks,” Pottermore extras, Fantastic Beasts screenplays, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (a stage script) are optional. They are not novels 8–10. The Beedle tales are the least confusing extra after Deathly Hallows. Fantastic Beasts films are a prequel cousin; the published screenplays are scripts.
Cursed Child continues characters after book seven. It is widely treated as extra-canonical by readers who want the seven to end where they end. This page does not make you read it.
