Sanderson names both as Cosmere starts. Choose one series and finish its first novel. Do not open a publication-order Cosmere chart first.
Pick one Cosmere door
Mistborn Era 1 is the shorter finished trilogy. Stormlight is the long series still in motion, with a long first book. Either is honest. This house slightly prefers The Final Empire if you want a complete argument sooner.
You do not need both first chapters “to decide.” That is how people start neither.
What is not a Cosmere on-ramp
Warbreaker, Elantris, and The Emperor’s Soul are real doors. They are not required before Mistborn or Stormlight. The secret-project novels are later treats, not Cosmere book one. Skyward is not Cosmere.
Arcanum Unbounded is a collection, not a starter pack.
After the first novel
Use the full Cosmere starter for the two-door rule, then the focused Mistborn or Stormlight map for novellas and Secret History. Those pages are the order. This page is only “which planet first?”

Do I need the whole Cosmere?
No. Series are sequential inside themselves. Crossovers are optional texture.
Mistborn or Stormlight first?
Either. Mistborn Era 1 if you want a finish line. Stormlight if you want the large current series.
Should I read Warbreaker before Words of Radiance?
No. Read it later if a trick made you curious. It is not Stormlight homework.
