Where to start the Witcher
Start the Witcher with The Last Wish, then Sword of Destiny. Blood of Elves is saga novel one, not book one. Later prequels wait.

The Last Wish
It is the collection English readers meet Geralt in. Then Sword of Destiny. Blood of Elves starts the five-novel saga and assumes the shorts. Do not start with Crossroads of Ravens.
Publication, not “Book One” on the spine
Polish magazine order, Polish book order, and English order are three histories. English readers got The Last Wish first, jumped to Blood of Elves, and only later received Sword of Destiny. The first-read path is the two collections, then the saga. Lists that stamp Blood of Elves “Book 1” because it is the first novel are selling form, not a door.
Games and Netflix rearrange. They are cousins. They are not a table of contents. If you watched first, still start with The Last Wish.
What is not an on-ramp
Blood of Elves is saga novel one. It expects Ciri and the shorts. Season of Storms sits earlier in Geralt’s calendar and later in publishing history; it also knows the saga exists. Crossroads of Ravens is a young-Geralt prequel published last. House rule: ninth, or not at all, on a first pass.
Do not skip Sword of Destiny because the English paperback arrived late.
