Flesh and Fire reading order

Short version of the interleave: Flesh and Fire before or after Blood and Ash?. This page is the four Sera novels plus the official weave.

Armentrout’s FAQ is unusually clear: Flesh and Fire is not a fully separate prequel. The two series are meant to be read together in release order. Reading all four Ember books first spoils mysteries the Poppy novels are still carrying.

Flesh and Fire novels

Inside this series, publication order is the only path. There is no Ember book you skip because it looks like a retell.

Official weave with Blood and Ash

Author list, release order. The Poppy titles live in full on the From Blood and Ash guide.

House rule: do not start with A Shadow in the Ember. If you only want Poppy, use the FBAA page and stay on that numbered six. If you want the world, follow the weave above. The least damaging first insert is still after The Crown of Gilded Bones.

Visions of Flesh and Blood is a world compendium, written with Rayvn Salvador. Armentrout says it does not have to be read as part of the series, and it should not be read before A Fire in the Flesh.

Novellas and extra scenes exist. Optional. Not Ember 0.

Common mistakes

• Starting with Flesh and Fire because it is chronological, or because Sera’s covers look like a new romantasy door.
• Reading all four Ember books before From Blood and Ash.
• Starting with A Soul of Ash and Blood or Born of Blood and Ash because the titles sound like origins.
• Mixing in Covenant, Lux, or Fall of Ruin and Wrath as if they were Blood and Ash world books.

Do I need Visions of Flesh and Blood?

Is Flesh and Fire finished?
The four Sera novels are complete. The shared world is not.
