House rule: read the seven novels. Insert a novella if you have it. Do not postpone Empire of Silence until you own every Tales of the Sun Eater volume. The Murdered Sun has been described as a non-canonical early version of book one; it is not a prequel and not an on-ramp.

This is not Dune, even when a blurb rhymes. You do not need Herbert first.

• Starting with book seven because it is the ending.
• Treating the novellas as required homework.
