The Crystal Shard (1988) is how Drizzt entered print. Homeland (1990) is Legend of Drizzt #1 on many shelves and starts his origin. This house defaults to Crystal Shard; Homeland first is the chronological path.
Two doors, not one wrong answer
The Crystal Shard introduced Drizzt to readers in 1988 with the Icewind Dale companions already on stage. Homeland, Exile, and Sojourn were written afterward and tell his earlier life in Menzoberranzan and on the road to the surface. Omnibus spines and “Legend of Drizzt” numbering usually put Homeland first.
Neither path invents a third on-ramp in the middle of Hunter’s Blades or Neverwinter.
