Read Jack Reacher in publication order, starting with Killing Floor. Chronological prequels are mid-run books. They are not book one.

Publication order. Killing Floor.
The official site says you can hop, then lists the books in written order. For a first read, written order is the honest path. Do not start with The Enemy, The Affair, Night School, or The Secret.
Why “any order” is only half true
Most Reacher novels are a man arriving in a new town. That is why publishers say you can start anywhere. The exceptions are the point of a reading-order page.
Prequels published mid-run — The Enemy, The Affair, Night School, The Secret — jump backward. Chronological charts that begin with those titles are reread toys. They assume you already know the man who got off the bus.
A four-book chain (61 Hours through Never Go Back) follows one leftover job. Read those four in order even if you hop elsewhere later.
Publication is how Child introduced him
Start with Killing Floor (1997). US book 4 is Running Blind; the UK title is The Visitor. Same book. Andrew Child co-authors from The Sentinel onward. That is a handoff, not a new book one.
The Prime series and the Tom Cruise films are cousins. Season order is not book order. One Shot is not an on-ramp because you saw a film.
