Where to start Red Rising
Start Red Rising with the novel Red Rising, then the original trilogy. Iron Gold is a second saga a decade later — not an on-ramp. Sons of Ares is optional.

It is book one. Do not start with Iron Gold because later copy called it a new saga. Iron Gold is the same war, a decade later, written for people who already know what the first trilogy cost.
Trilogy first, then the wider war
Publication order is the only path: Red Rising, Golden Son, Morning Star, then Iron Gold, Dark Age, Light Bringer. You can stop after Morning Star and have a complete trilogy. You will not have the saga Brown kept writing.
Red God is a planned finale. It is not a reason to wait before opening book one. Six novels are already a sequence.
What is not book one
Iron Gold opens the wider war. Multiple cameras. A republic that has to live with the revolution. It assumes you lived through the old one. Sons of Ares is a graphic-novel prequel line about a different generation. Optional texture. A poor place to meet Darrow.
Do not wait for a TV adaptation to become a table of contents. It is not one yet.
